The Wainuiomata Memorial RSA Inc. (WMRSA) has been, under various names, in existence since the 1950's and is affiliated to the Royal New Zealand Returned and Servicemen's Association (RNZRSA) and to Clubs New Zealand.
Originally the RNZRSA allowed associate members to join at the rate of one associate member to each returned member. Some 20 years ago, the WMRSA, like other branches throughout New Zealand, were finding that the number of returned and service members were decreasing due to the age of the population.
The WMRSA acted proactively and set up a second club, the Wainuiomata Services and Citizens Club, which used the same premises, but was not bound to the membership restrictions under the RNZRSA. This became the trading arm of the WMRSA.
In 2000, rule changes within the RNZRSA enabled the clubs to merge. The WMRSA is a non-profit organisation governed by a committee of 9.
